Scheduling Off-Site Calls

Beach and Park calls can provide a very peaceful, meaningful experience for the family’s last moments with their pet. However, experience has shown that a few precautions have to be taken in order to make this a smooth visit which does not create confusion or wasted time for the doctor.

When we get requests for beach or park calls:

  1.  Under NO circumstances will the doctor be meeting the family at their house and then ride to the beach with the family.  The family is to provide an exact meeting point at the location where they want the euthanasia so there is no additional time added to the call for riding with the family from their house to the beach, no matter how close they say their house is to the beach. In addition, for our doctors’ safety, doctors are not permitted to ride in a client’s vehicle.

  1. The beach or park location has to be within 200-300 feet of where there is parking available for the doctor.  The family HAS to provide and reserve a parking spot for the doctor.  In other words, someone in the family has to be there ahead of time and reserve a parking spot for the doctor that is within 300 feet of the location of the euthanasia.

  1. If those conditions are not met, there will be an additional fee for the call which could amount to an additional $400 depending on how much additional time and effort is involved in getting to the location, finding parking, etc… Doctor will use his/her judgement in assessing the additional fee depending on the extent of the inconvenience created or may decline to provide the service if no reasonable accommodations can be made. In this case, the client will be charged the minimum visit fee and the visit will have to be rescheduled and the guidelines of this policy will have to be put in place for the subsequent visit.

  1. If the location of the euthanasia is further than 300 feet from the location of the car, the doctor will not help carry the pet unless it is a very small pet (under 20lbs). The family has to provide their own lifting in this case.

  1. The visit cannot be scheduled at a “dog beach” or “dog park” as dogs will be playing and roaming free in the vicinity and it can create a dangerous situation for the doctor and potentially for roaming pets as they could accidentally get into needles and drugs. The environment has to be calm, private and secure enough where pets are required to be kept on a leash.

  1. For our doctors’ safety, beach and park calls have to be done during daylight hours. They have to be scheduled early enough that the euthanasia visit has to be completed before darkness sets in.

  1. The above has to be made clear in the confirmation email for beach euthanasias. If you schedule an Off Site euthanasia, you will have to send a separate email to the client which outlines the details above, in addition to the email sent automatically by the website.

  1. An Off-Site Fee will be assessed in addition to the usual quote for Euthanasia, Aftercare, After-Hours fee, Travel Fee, etc… (see Fee schedule)
